As a member of the Intake and Conflicts Department, the Senior Conflicts Attorney will have two main functions: 1) resolve escalated conflicts issues; and 2) clear conflicts for and assist recruiting department with onboarding partner laterals. Responsibilities Resolution of Escalated Conflicts Issues Work with Director and Administrative Partner to resolve complex conflict issues, escalate business and ethical concerns, as necessary, and work with firm attorneys to understand all details of client and matter engagements. Understand, review, and provide guidance on conflicts of interest rules, including ABA Model Rules 1.7, 1.9. 1.10. and 1.18, and the state-level rules for each jurisdiction where the Firm has an office. Understand, or show a willingness to learn, UK SRA Rules around conflicts of interest. Draft, edit, and negotiate engagement letters. Review Outside Counsel Guidelines and work with firm attorneys and other internal stakeholders to obtain approvals. Liaise with firm attorneys and Legal Executive Assistants to understand conflicts needs and provide excellent customer service. Search, analyze, and understand client engagement terms, providing analyses where needed. Provide expertise to Firm attorneys and management in the conflict check process. Provide ongoing, hands-on training to Conflicts Analysts, Intake Specialists, and Lateral Supervisor, and answer questions about conflicts rules. Clearing and Onboarding Lateral Partners Research, analyze, and help resolve conflicts for new legal hires, with a focus on lateral partner candidates. Provide excellent and time-sensitive customer service throughout partner onboarding, performing conflicts and intake tasks as needed, with goal of efficient and seamless onboarding of new clients and matters. Determine and decide, in consultation with firm attorneys and candidates, whether waivers, screens, or other measures may need to be taken before a candidate can join the firm. Assist in all other aspects of lateral clearances, including data entry of lateral former matter information. Assist Lateral Supervisor (responsible for all non-partner laterals) in liaising with recruiting department and understand pipeline of incoming non-partner laterals. Work with Lateral Supervisor to allocate work and meet deadlines. Other duties including but not limited to: Research, identify, and resolve conflicts of interest for new clients and matters, when Conflicts Analysts need additional support. Assist in conflict searching for marketing purposes or other requests, as assigned. Perform client and matter maintenance, work with teammates to update database regularly and ensure database integrity. Understand Intapp workflow and firm-specific processes and procedures, be able to guide Conflict Analysts through difficult intake situations, requiring deep knowledge of approval processes and other workflow triggers. Other related tasks as required. Opportunities for growth in other areas of ethics, risk, and compliance related to the role. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree/JD required. Active licensed attorney. Five (5) years of legal intake and conflicts experience highly preferred in a high volume, automated environment. Proficiency with legal technology, including accounting/billing systems such as Aderant, web-based conflict research tools (e.g., Orbis, Dow Jones), database platforms, and accurate typing. Strong working knowledge of professional conduct rules as they relate to conflicts of interest. Responsive, solutions-oriented service mindset and the ability to build effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the firm. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal formats. Manage multiple competing priorities with precise attention to detail, while triaging and shifting between assignments as needed. Able to adapt to short-term workload spikes, including working extended hours when necessary to meet urgent deadlines. Team player. Intapp experience preferred. Salary range based on experience level and location is estimated to be in the range of $180,000 - $200,000.
