Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Paralegal provides support to attorneys in the Real Estate and Financial Market practice areas, representing investors and lenders in commercial real estate loans, dispositions, and sale transactions. Under the supervision of an attorney, responsibilities include: Participating in due diligence review of title, survey, zoning and related documents; drafting, editing, and conforming legal documents and correspondence; ordering and negotiating title, survey and zoning reports; identifying, analyzing and summarizing title, survey and zoning issues, negotiating title insurance, surveys and zoning reports to correct title defects and issue clear title; verify accuracy of final title insurance policies, surveys and zoning reports; obtain services from outside contractors, including research services, filing services, and printing services; process bills and disbursement paperwork in connection with those services; organize, prepare and coordinate escrow closings for purchase, sale and finance transactions, including assisting attorneys in preparing closing documents, reviewing settlement statements, signature pages, closing logistics, document execution, recordation, delivery of agreements and documents to the various parties; handling post-closing matters including filing UCCs and preparation of closing binders. Paralegals may be asked to provide general supervision of project assistants and other clerical staff. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Paralegal certification is a plus. Minimum of five (5) years at a large law firm as a Real Estate paralegal is preferred. Must possess good organizational and communication skills, excellent Microsoft software skills, title, survey, and zoning examination experience, and a willingness to learn. Ability to work overtime as needed. Jones Day offers competitive salaries and benefits to all employees. Compensation is determined upon the market in which the position is located, the responsibilities of the position, the experience and skills of the applicant, and other job-related factors. The starting salary range for this New York position is $100,000 - $130,000.
