Our firm handles the full range of family law cases, from high net worth divorce cases to contested custody cases to pre-marital and post-marital property agreements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and draft legal documents including, but not limited to, pleadings, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and correspondence.
Coordinate and schedule hearings, trials, depositions, mediations, meetings, and phone conferences with the client, opposing counsel/party, experts, and the courts.
Maintain attorney calendars for hearings, trials, depositions, mediations, deadlines, meetings, phone conferences, and other appointments.
Prepare notebooks, including exhibits, for hearings, trials, depositions, mediations, and other appointments.
Prepare documents for filing and/or e-filing with the court.
Receive, organize, convert, redact, and Bates label documents from the client, opposing counsel/party, experts, etc. in both paper form and electronic form.
Review, analyze, and organize documents received from the clients, opposing counsel/party, experts, court personnel, and others.
Prepare, process, and organize incoming and outgoing responsive discovery documents.
Keep client filing current and organized.
Create and maintain a document tracker for documents received and produced for each client file.
Communicate with clients, opposing counsel/party, experts, mediators, court personnel, and others in various forms, both written and verbal, including but not limited to letters, emails, in-person, and telephone calls.
Prepare and draft Inventory and Appraisements, Financial Information Statements, and property division spreadsheets.
Navigate the county’s online record system.
Provide in-person support for attorney in preparation of and during meetings, mediations, depositions, and hearings.
Provide in-person support for client in preparation of and during meetings, mediations, depositions, and hearings.
Provide in-person general office support.
Essential Functions:
Work independently and/or with others, including but not limited to other staff members, attorneys, clients, opposing counsel/party, experts and vendors
Multitask and maintain organized client files
Consistently meet required deadlines
Be proactive regarding deadlines
Effectively communicate in a clear and concise manner with clients, attorneys, experts, court personnel, and other staff members at the firm
Ability to adapt to various individual styles and preferences of attorneys within the firm, including but not limited to format of documents and case management style
Delegate tasks to other staff members when necessary
Prioritize tasks and maintain efficiency
Ability to physically manipulate and carry files and file boxes for organizational purposes within the office as well as for transport to proceeding locations such as courthouse or mediator office
Ability to sit, stand, or otherwise remain stationary for extended periods of time while doing computer work or attending proceedings such as mediation and trial
Ability to move and navigate within the office in order to access office equipment, conference rooms, file cabinets, and supplies
Comply with the firm policies and dress code
Comply with confidentiality protocols
Protect and maintain the reputation of the firm
Exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills
Regular attendance and punctuality during business hours
Experience Required:
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Family Law Paralegal in Texas and 5 years as a paralegal
Working knowledge of legal terminology, procedural statutes, standing orders, evidentiary rules and local rules for the counties in which the attorneys in the office practice law
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe
Proficiency in E-File Texas
Proficiency in Westlaw Form Builder
Board certification in Family Law through the Texas Board of Legal Specialization a plus but not required
Work Hours:
Usual work hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch Monday through Friday
