Description
The Monmouth University Urban Coast Institute (UCI) is seeking a part-time Coastal Restoration Technician to assist the Coastal Restoration Program on a portfolio of existing coastal resilience restoration research projects and future projects related to coastal restoration and resilience. This position will involve field and laboratory work and aquaculture operations at UCI’s off-site facility located at Naval Weapons Station Earle. The anticipated timeline for this role is 13 weeks starting on May 18 - August 14, with an option to continue through November 20, 2026 if both parties are agreeable.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Aquaculture Operations: Assist with operations at the aquaculture facility at NWSE including setting tank maintenance, setting of oysters, and daily monitoring of tanks. Work with NWSE staff and partners on upgrading and maintaining facility operations.
Monitoring and Data Collection: Conduct field research at project sites using a variety of methodologies and techniques to monitor species richness, oyster growth and survival, water quality and shoreline protection efforts. Assist in deploying instrumentation for oceanographic data collection and data analysis. Assist with eDNA sampling and processing.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Science degree with coursework in marine science, biology, environmental science, ecology, or closely related disciplines
Experience with field sampling and data collection
Must be able to lift 30lbs
Must be comfortable working on and around water
Must be comfortable troubleshooting in the field and using tools, pumps, generators, etc.
Must be comfortable working on marine vessels in various weather conditions
Must be able to pass background check to obtain Department of Defense clearance
Must have a car and be willing to travel to aquaculture facility and project sites
Must be able to work during the summer
Must be able to occasionally work on weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with calibrating, deploying, and maintaining oceanographic instrumentation
Experience with oceanographic instrumentation programming and analyzing data
Experience with collecting and processing eDNA samples
