This role involves advocating on behalf of hospitals and medical providers to recover patient account balances from insurance companies. The ideal candidate will bring at least one year of litigation experience and familiarity with Michigan’s No Fault Act. This is an opportunity to work on complex healthcare reimbursement disputes within a collaborative, growing team committed to delivering outstanding results for clients.Key ResponsibilitiesRepresent hospitals and medical providers in disputes with insurance companies involving:No Fault eligibility, coverage, causation, and priority issues under Michigan’s No Fault ActHealth plan disputes, including issues related to pre-authorization, pre-existing condition denials, COBRA eligibility, and ERISA preemptionReimbursement disputes under the No Fault Fee Schedule, Worker’s Compensation Fee Schedule, ERISA plans, HMOs, and government programsAddress customary and reasonable underpayments and pursue recovery through litigation and negotiationManage claims involving third-party audits, balance billing issues, and contractual disputesDefend or assert charging lien or fee claims related to patient liability claimsConduct legal research, draft pleadings, and represent clients in court and administrative proceedingsCollaborate with internal teams to develop case strategies and support the broader goals of the Med Recovery Practice GroupMaintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable healthcare reimbursement laws, regulations, and proceduresQualificationsJuris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law schoolAdmission to practice law in MichiganMinimum of one (1) year of litigation experience; healthcare litigation or insurance defense experience preferredFamiliarity with Michigan’s No Fault Act is strongly preferredStrong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skillsAbility to manage a high-volume caseload with attention to detail and deadlinesCommitment to professionalism, collaboration, and client serviceStrong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environmentAt Miller Johnson, we believe in fostering an exceptional work experience which includes a healthy work-life balance, a diverse and inclusive culture that values uniquely talented team members, and a technologically advanced environment.
